Welcome to House Federation

Hetton Lyons Nursery School and Usworth Colliery Nursery School form the HOUSE Federation. Both nurseries share a strong ethos that puts the children’s needs at the very heart of what we  do.

We share the traditional values of the maintained nursery school which is to balance health and well-being with education.  We believe in play being at the centre of the children’s experiences, as well as creativity and outside learning.

Each school serves their own unique local community, with their offer rooted in the needs of that community.

The HOUSE Federation Board oversees and supports each school, drawing on best practice to ensure all standards are met through a high quality early years curriculum.

Benefits of the HOUSE Federation are:

  • Share teaching expertise and therefore build stronger pedagogy across the three schools.
  • A wide and riche curriculum across the federation through shares events, resources and staffing.
  • Staff development opportunities, to improve outcomes for children and families.
  • A wider range of expertise to support all of our families across the three communities.
